About Me

I’ve always had a gift for writing and storytelling. When I was a kid I wanted to be a writer or editor when I grew up. I completed my Bachelor’s in English and was accepted into a MFA program. Everything was on track to pursue my dreams.

Sadly, the MFA program didn’t work out. It wasn’t the kind of program you could complete while living in the suburbs, and I couldn’t afford to live in the city.

Instead I got a job working in higher education. I didn’t write anything other than emails for the next decade. I did, however, have a steady paycheck and health insurance.

After ten years it was time for a career change. I was blessed that I could take my time to discern what to do next. So I started praying.

The answer came to me rather quickly- writing.

I immediately squashed that thought like a bug. There are no guarantees in writing. What would I do about health insurance? What about a retirement plan? I have bills to pay!

I kept praying, and the thought kept coming back. It was persistent, nagging, and eventually I grew frustrated.

Fine. I’ll consider it. It won’t work out, and then I can dismiss the idea and move on.

So I thought about it. And I thought some more. And I prayed some more. And the Lord revealed His plan for me.

I wouldn’t write secular stories. I would write for all the young Christian women who don’t feel represented in secular media, or even some Christian media. I would let them know they are seen and heard and valued.

Thus began a months long journey mapping out exactly what that would look like. I knew I would have to self-publish. Traditional secular publishers wouldn’t be interested in my stories, and traditional Christian publishers wouldn’t agree with my theology.

Self-publishing meant starting my own business. I never imagined becoming an entrepreneur. I had a lot to learn about bookkeeping and taxes!

I also had to learn about self-publishing itself, from formatting books to marketing them. There are so many amazing resources available for self-published authors and the most supportive community.

Soon I had a business plan. I knew when I would form my LLC. I knew when I would begin publishing my stories. I outlined multiple series and began writing on nights and weekends.

Throughout this journey I never stopped praying. I stayed in constant communication with God. I recognized how difficult the transition to full-time writer would be and that I would need to rely on His strength.

God has been very good to me, showing me the way and assuaging my fears. I’m thrilled to continue on this writing journey supporting my sisters in Christ and glorifying God!
